    Alex Feeds Himself

At our last checkup, Alex’s doctor said we needed to start letting him use a spoon and fork to feed himself.  I almost laughed, then realized she was being totally serious.  Um, a nine month old using a spoon and fork and actually getting food in his pie hole?  Don’t think so.  Then she mentioned that we could have a spoon and he could have a spoon.  Okay.  That I can work with.  Make him feel like he is independent, while still making sure he eats the food I make him instead of throwing it in his lap.  So, for his first independent meal, avocado and yogurt.  Poor decision.  He…

Crackle Painting of the Mystery Animal

Hello! After staying up entirely too late Tuesday night watching season 2 of Homeland, I mustered up the energy to not snuggle with Alex for his afternoon nap and tackle a project I’ve been thinking about for months, painting my new little friend here. I bought this little gem from a thrift store for 49 cents!  I couldn’t pass it up even though I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with it, or what it was for that matter.  Anybody have a clue what that animal is?  Anyways.  I’ve had it in my head that I wanted it to be silver and crackly since picking it up in…

    Homeland Addict

Happy Monday, guys!  I hope you all had a relaxing and fun weekend =] A lot of my weekend was spent becoming addicted to the show Homeland.  A few of John’s coworkers suggested that we needed to watch it, so they dropped off the season 1 dvd for us to enjoy.   Photo courtesy of Amazon On Saturday evening, we decided to watch an episode before heading up to bed.  Well, one episode turned into 2 and we were up until about 1:45 am, which is WAY past my bedtime!   I immediately fell in love with the characters (even the bad ones!)  There is such amazing acting in this…

    Weekend projects and Alex update

Hello there! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend so far! I’ve had a super productive weekend. Friday I managed to clean the entire house (my parents are here for the weekend to visit Alex us).<—–This is me qualifying why I cleaned my entire house.  Sad? Today, I started my day off with a 7 mile run. It was a little rough for the first 3, but after I got into a groove, the rest flew by! It didn’t hurt to have a running buddy to talk to! We ended at Starbucks for a little post run coffee and walked back to my place. It was a beautiful morning…

    Easy DIY Curtains

Good morning! Today I thought I’d share a simple DIY that I completed yesterday!  I have been searching for curtains to go in my son’s room but couldn’t find exactly what I wanted (especially any that were in my price range).  Window coverings can be so pricey!  I was super excited when I came across this tutorial over at Shanty 2 Chic for easy no-sew curtains. I did end up sewing the two hems instead of using hot glue as in the tutorial.  Also, in the interest of using what I already had on hand, I hot glued ribbon strips to the top instead of using the clip on rings.  I found…

    New Year, New Goals

Ok. Let’s be real here. I’ve never, ever kept to any resolution that I’ve made in the past. I get really gung ho- then,  after about 5 days I’m bored and onto a new something or other. So this year, I’m trying to be realistic. I just want to make small changes/improvements that I can actually achieve, and in the long run, they will cause bigger changes–hopefully. So a few things I really need to work on: Make exercise a part of my daily life. This one I constantly struggle with. I have this issue with thinking I’m still 17 and being thin and fit comes naturally. Well, let me…

Alex’s December Photo Shoot (Shameless Baby Photo Post)

In 2013, I really want to try to take more pictures.  I’ve developed a bad habit of forgetting the camera and it needs to stop!  We have an awesome camera that we got with some of our wedding money (2 1/2 years ago) and I have yet to learn to use it.  It’s shameful, I know. At first, I was just taking a few extra pictures of Alex after his “accomplishment” board photos each month.  Last month, I dragged John, on his lunch hour, to the covered bridge in town to snap a few pictures. And now, I will shamelessly post them for your viewing pleasure!

    Christmas Recap 2012

Merry Christmas from the Reineke Family!  I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season full of family, food and fun! We had a whirlwind of a Christmas this year!  It started with a full house here in Oxford when John’s parent’s and sisters (with husbands, boyfriends, kids, and pets) came for the weekend before Christmas.   Alex had a blast playing with his cousin Oliver!  It was so fun hosting Christmas for the first time and it was great to see everybody especially because everybody is so spread out.  John’s parents are in Mt. Vernon, OH, his sister, Julie, is in Pittsburgh and his oldest sister, Shalyn, is in Naples,…

    Finger foods!

Don’t judge me.  I’m taking a break from watching Twilight (yes, the first one) to update you on Alex’s eating habits.  Would you believe me if I told you I had Twilight on repeat for about two months during senior year of college.  You should.  I wouldn’t lie to you.  It’s embarrassing but true!  I have to throw Kate, my best friend, under the bus as well.  She was in on it.  Anyways, I digress… Today Alex started finger foods!  He has been testing the waters with puffs for about a month, and has done great, so I figured he was ready to move on up!  I found this amazing…

    7 months old!

For once, I am happy I was late taking the pictures this month because Alex decided to start pulling himself up on his 7 month birthday!  I would have missed putting this important milestone on the board, and lets face it, that would have been a tragedy.  He is a lean, mean, army crawling machine and is getting into everything!  I will say, it is so nice to be able to set him down on his bottom without having to worry about him face-planting (for the most part). Christmas has arrived in the Reineke Household!  Luckily, Alex was only interested in the tree for a few days.  I still catch…
