    Easy Basket Transformation

So, I teased you all on Wednesday with my last mystery item from the thrift shop.  Well here it is!  I don’t expect you to be as excited as I am about it, but humor me, will you?? A basket!  It’s a decent size basket too.  And for only $6!  It’s exactly what I was looking for to corral all of John’s exercise/stretching equipment that he keeps in our room.  Mostly all of it sits in the corner behind our armoire and Alex likes to grab it, run and then throw it down the stairs.  It might drive me a little nuts. So, I figured if it was all contained,…

    Monday Junkin’ Finds

I’ve been itching to get to the thrift store lately.  I finally gave in on Monday and dragged Alex out for a day of deal searchin’.  He’s always such a trooper, especially when he gets to talk to everybody we pass.  Poor thing didn’t even make it to the store before falling asleep. We don’t have a lot in the way of thrift stores around Oxford except for our local Family Resource Center.  The thrift store is approximately 800 sq. ft. and completely jam-packed!  Every once in a while you score something awesome, but it is unlikely.  I will say that they have a sale every year when all of…

It’s Like a Whole New House!

Here it is you guys!  The post you’ve all been waiting for.  Okay, maybe I’m the one who couldn’t wait to post about our facade update??  Yup. In case you forgot, this is what our house looked like in days of yore. Life was happening during this picture obviously.  I don’t even remember snapping it.  I was definitely in the middle of refinishing our front porch furniture (and our porch was still naked!!) Anyways, green shutters (and door) galore.  Time to go. So, we John removed all of the shutters because he loves me so and I laid them out in our garage to get to painting. We used the…

    I’m Dreaming of a White Staircase…

Okay, maybe not white, but a painted staircase. Before my husband freaks out, I am JUST DREAMING dear. I would love to rip up the old and not so pretty carpet and do something like this from Painted Therapy. She even put my mind at rest about having slippy slidey stairs with a toddler (and a clumsy pregnant lady).  She used an additive (like for porch paint) to make the paint slip-resistant.  Genius!  I would probably go with a lighter color for the runner though. The reason my mind has been going to painting lately is because we want to paint all of the wood that is on our stairs (the…

    Fun Playroom Signs

So, lately I’ve been trying to tackle little projects around the house.  I like the feeling of accomplishment I get when I spend little to no money on a project.  Something about it is so exhilarating! One of my most recent tasks was to get some art going on in Alex’s playroom.  It’s basically a blank slate in there, with one piece of furniture and a mountain of toys, so it definitely needs some love.  I knew I wanted to put up the chalkboard I used in his monthly pictures, so I did that and also painted a little frame and threw some of his burp cloth fabric in there.…

    Monthly Pregnancy Photo Project

I was so bad at taking pictures of myself during my pregnancy with Alex.  I had a lot of weekly photos that I took in the mirror when I actually remembered, but nothing awesome (except for our maternity photos!).  Then Pinterest came along, towards the end of my pregnancy, with all of these adorable weekly/monthly photos of pregnant ladies. For this pregnancy I have committed to a monthly picture.  It is pretty much all I can remember to do handle.   Here they are so far.  Month 2 = bad hair day! Yikes! John is the photographer and I am the master editor/text adder.  It’s a pretty fun project so…

    Craft Room Dresser Makeover

I love me a good furniture makeover.  There is just something about taking an ugly, old dresser and turning it into something that makes you smile every time you walk by. My parents picked up this tallboy a few months ago and had it sitting in their garage.  I, being the picker that I am, asked what they were doing with it.  My mom didn’t love it so she said I could have it if I wanted.  Whoop!  Just what I wanted to hear.  This little beaut was mine all mine. My original thought was to put it in our living room as our TV stand because that way Alex…

    Front Door Update!

Can we all pause for a moment and think about the fact that the 90s started over 20 years ago?  As Alex would currently say “Whooooa”.  I thought about it every time I looked at my front door.  The color just screamed 90s to me.  Now, I wasn’t actually certain that the door was painted when the house was built, but that was where my mind would go. So, for the past 17 months, I have been dreaming of a new front door color.  My first thought was to paint it some sort of blue.  John nixed that pretty quickly and said we should paint it red.  Shocking.  I wouldn’t…

    Big Things Happening Around Here!

Well, actually just one little thing happening around here. That’s right!  Come March we will have another little addition to our family.  We could not be more excited. We found out mid-July and have kept it under lock and key for this long!  Can you believe it?!  I really can’t.  I’m a terrible secret keeper. So, bear with me as I learn to be pregnant with a toddler for the first time =]  I’ll be back soon with a few projects I’ve been working on!

5 (Easy) Ways to Save Some Green

Hi there! As a single income household, we are always trying to find ways to save some dough.  Today I thought I’d share a few ways that we have found to put a little cash back in our pockets savings account. (source) 1. Homemade Laundry Detergent – I was a little skeptical about this when I started searching for recipes.  It’s hard to switch after using the brand names for so long and never having a problem with store bought detergent.  But, every time I went to the store for laundry soap, I would cry a little inside as I spent $10 or so for not a whole lot of…
