    Mackinac Island Mini Vacation

About 2 weeks ago, after our extended stay in Michigan (where John ran the Detroit Marathon), we headed up to Mackinac Island.  It is a tiny island at the tippy-top of Michigan (the Lower Peninsula). We take a mini-vacation there every year during their last open weekend.  It is such a great little place to enjoy some quality family time.  There are no cars allowed on the island, but there are horses (with carriages) and bikes everywhere.  Alex was loving every minute of seeing horses everywhere. We took a horse and carriage taxi to our condo which was about 2 miles from town.  We usually stay right on Main Street,…

    Starting My Thirty-One Journey!

Hey all! I have some exciting news coming out of the Reineke Household…I am now a Thirty-One Consultant!  I started thinking about becoming a consultant about a year ago.  My friend and I were tossing around ideas of how we could earn a little extra income and still stay at home, and Thirty-One kept coming up.  She decided to dive on in, but I was still a little apprehensive.  I’m not a sales person at all so I wasn’t convinced that it was for me. A year (or so) later, the thought came up to me again.  How can I earn a little extra income to help my family out…

    Happy Halloween!

Well, we successfully completed Alex’s first trick-or-treat last night!  The cuteness around town was too much to handle, but our little farmer had my heart all night.  He was so adorable going up to all of the businesses who were handing out candy.  He would pick his piece out, put it in his bag, and immediately turn to grab more.  A boy after my own heart.  Of course we had the discussion that we only take one piece (repeated at each store) so other kids could also have candy.  I’m pretty sure he didn’t process a word I was saying and just wanted his next piece of loot. We had…

    Alex’s First Halloween Party!

About a week and a half ago, Alex went to his first Halloween party!  My girlfriend took him while I got ready for our big vacation up to Michigan, so I missed it, but I got so much done!  Luckily she took a bunch of pictures, so it felt like I was there! He borrowed one of her costumes because I am a procrastinator when it comes to Halloween.  But I will say he was the cutest little tiger I have ever seen! Waiting for his ride to the party =]     Because just sitting outside the sensory bin isn’t fun enough… sorry if anybody else wanted to play…

    Detroit Marathon 2013!

This post should be titled “Photo Shoot of Two Really Adorable Running Fans and Two Blurry Running Photos”, but I thought that would be a little too long. Well, John and Jose finished their 2nd Detroit Marathon yesterday!  John’s time was 4:20.02 and Jose’s time was 4:30.57.  Pretty awesome if you ask me!  Sarah, Alex, Parker and I were all there to cheer them on =] They were extremely proud of these jackets they picked up from Salvation Army for their throw away gear at the start of the race.  Athens swimming for life. Sarah and I arrived in Detroit just in time to miss both guys at mile 8.…

    Give a Toddler Some Paint…

This year, instead of carving pumpkins, we decided to let the little guy in on the action and whip out some paint!  He even got to choose his colors.  Not a bad pallet, some calming neutrals for his pumpkin. We armed him with two paint brushes (one bristle, one foam, for some artistic variety.  You know.) I must say, we were pretty impressed with his technique and artistic ability.  And he only got distracted once (twice?) by an airplane. Caught red blue/gray/green handed trying to paint the front porch! It was really fun watching him concentrate so hard on painting.  Even more fun that we didn’t have to clean out…

We’re Going on a Pumpkin Hunt

Sunday, we had planned to take Alex to the pumpkin patch to pick out his pumpkin.  My parents were in town so we planned to make a fun afternoon of it.  This picture is the result of a no-nap day and being “all done”. I picked out a farm that had gotten good reviews from quite a few other moms that I know.  So we trekked out there, parked and walked up to the entrance. Only to find that they were charging $9 per person to get in!  Maybe I was spoiled growing up where I did, but we definitely did not pay to get into a farm.  I wouldn’t…

    An Ugly Mailbox No More!

Just another victim of the gallon of black paint!  Don’t stop moving or you may be next… Our mailbox needed some serious love. This side of the mailbox bakes in the sun most of the day, so we definitely needed to get rid of the stick-on letters.  I daresay they aren’t working. I used a razor to scrape off the numbers.  FYI if you have a ridged mailbox, scrape up and down.  Made the work so much faster when I figured that out (30 minutes later).  I used some trusty Goo Gone to get that residue off and then washed down the mailbox with soap and water. After a few…

The Reinekes Get Organized – Week 1: Bathroom Linen Closet

Okay!  Maybe I’m nesting or I’m just tired of not being organized, but it’s time!  I’ve recently been obsessed with reading about other people’s organized homes and how they did/do it.  My two current inspirations are A Bowl Full of Lemons and iHeart Organizing.  I mean, these ladies seem to have it all together.  Plus, I have always wanted to do a blog series and this feels like something I can manage.  I can give you practical tips on how I organize my spaces (big and small) on a real life budget.  Don’t worry, I won’t make you feel like you need to run out and get baskets from Pottery…
