    DIY Toddler Bed Rails

We set up Alex’s big boy bed!  He looks like such a munchkin in it, it’s adorable.  We were waiting to make the switch until we had some toddler rails for it, since it sits really high up off the ground and he’s been known to roll out of bed a time or two. We weren’t loving the look of the rails you buy at the store, though.  They just look like hospital bed rails or something to me.  With mesh.  It wasn’t really going with my vision for Alex’s room and since I think they will be up for a while (he’s not even two yet) I wanted them…

Makin’ a Splash in the Kitchen!

Guilty.  We did this a while ago.  Don’t judge me.  But a project that involves a kitchen, also involves having a clean kitchen to photograph.  And that never seems to happen at the right time of day to get some great pics and I only want the best for you guys. Anyways.  We have a back splash (!!!!!!!!).  I’ve never had a back splash before.  Like.  Ever.  Growing up we had a wallpapered kitchen (love ya mom and dad, so proud of you for taking that down!) and when we lived in the apartment it was painted.  This kitchen was also just painted and I was so so so excited…

    Curtain Call!

What??  We finally have curtains up in our bedroom!  I have been procrastinating replacing the sheer green ones that were there when we moved in.  (Apologies for the terrible before picture, it’s from the online listing) I don’t remember when I took those down, I think it was quite a while ago, though.  We were living with this blank wall ever since and I knew it was driving John crazy.  Note the left blind that Luna destroyed in her first few weeks with us.  Don’t worry we rigged it back up with staples for the time being, until we decide what we really want in here =] I have been…

Polka Dot Cowl – Free Crochet Pattern

I’m in love with this cowl.  I searched all over to see if there was a pattern to make a polka dot anything (without having to make the dots and sew them on) and I found a great tutorial (for a blanket) but you had to use a single crochet (not happening).  Single crochet takes waaaaaay too long and I definitely like a crochet project that I can get done in a day.  Call me impatient, I’m totally cool with that.  I like instant results. Soooo,  I decided to write up my own pattern for this adorable cowl that I was dreaming of in my mind and who better to share…

    Nursery/Big Boy Room Plans

People keep asking if we have the nursery done and I have to stifle a chuckle because it looks like this. Okay, so that blue artwork is gone and we have moved the twin bed into Alex’s room and the curtains have been switched out, but otherwise this is the “nursery”. We plan on moving the wood furniture from the nursery to Alex’s room because it matches the headboard for his big boy bed.  This was John’s bedroom set growing up.  It needs a little love in the form of refinishing, but that is for another day.  I love the chunky wood look for Alex’s room.  I can’t wait to…

    Big Boy Room Addition

Well, it’s finally time for me to finish Alex’s nursery.  I mean…start Alex’s big kid room.  Um, you know what I mean. I never got around to finishing the decorations in Alex’s nursery.  Luckily he never noticed.  Phew!  I had way too many ideas floating around and way too much wall space to fill, it made me nervous.  But, everything I had planned for his nursery will, thankfully, transfer right over to his big kid room. His room is (or will be) Ohio State Buckeye theme (John’s pick!).  I really want to keep it from getting to themey though.  So, sorry hunny, probably no Brutus FatHead on the wall.  I…

    DIY Woodland Nursery Tree Art

Does anybody remember this gem? I made it just over a year ago for our guest bedroom makeover that I was working on. Well, seeing as we will no longer have a guest bedroom per-se, I figured it would be okay if I stole this for a nursery project. My original inspiration came from here.  I thought it would go great in Christian’s woodland themed nursery while keeping things on the more modern side.  I don’t want to get too woodsy/cabin in there.  But, instead of making it a print, I thought I could use the old rustic window to paint on.  Genius, I know. So, I started off with…

Cabin Fever Remedies for the Under Two Crowd

…or any age, really! Lets face it, we love our little tykes, more than anything in this world, but when there is a layer of ice on the snow outside and you haven’t been able to get fresh air because of the frigid temps, everybody is going a little stir crazy! On Saturday, our day started off wonderful.  Alex slept in and when he woke up he drank some milk and snuggled with me on the couch for a good hour watching cartoons.  It was blissful. Then, I spilled my coffee all over the back of the couch and on my shirt.  As I was upstairs (for 2 seconds) grabbing…

    One Month to Go!

Can we please talk about how there are less than 4 weeks until my due date?   Um…where did that time go??  All of a sudden I’m waddling everywhere and my face that I didn’t think was puffy is actually puffy.  I forgot what it’s like to be 8 months pregnant! With Alex, I remember coming home from work and falling asleep on the couch every.single.day.  I was exhausted and I didn’t even have a toddler yet.  John has a lot of proof of my couch naps that I would rather not share with you.  Totally unflattering. Anyways!  Here I am, 8 months preggo with baby #2.  I’m trying to soak…

The Easiest Ever Toddler Crochet Cowl

Morning! I’m going to preface this post by telling you all of my pictures are currently trapped on my Mac that decided to stop charging.  Awesome!  So I’m using handy dandy iPhone photos for you =] A few months ago, when the temps started to take a nosedive, I found myself needing a scarf for Alex.  Giving him an actual scarf made me somewhat nervous because he tends to think wrapping things around his neck is fun.  Notsomuch.  So I figured I could whip him up a little cowl before we headed out for the day.  It was so easy and took me less than 20 minutes, I made it…
