Big Changes Ahead!
Good afternoon, my lovely readers! Yesterday, I finally took the plunge and upgraded to WordPress Premium! Very exciting stuff! That being said, when it came time to pick the domain name, it got me thinking about the “brand”. I want this blog to be easily recognizable and it’s name to reflect what it is we do around here! While John and I love Reineke Ramblings (and are totally open to keeping it), we have come up with a few other options that may better represent what we’re all about. Now, here is your part! We want y’all to help us decide. We are so thankful to everyone who takes time…

IKEA Lack Train Table Hack
Dear Thomas the Tank Engine, You and your toy train tracks are very confusing, overwhelming, expensive, and somehow they are always scattered around my house. You’re very lucky my son is obsessed with you. But, seriously though, these train tracks. Some days they have me wishing I would’ve just gone with the Ikea Figure 8 set. Alex loves him some Thomas & Friends though, so here we are. I have been wanting to set up a train table for Alex since his birthday this year, I just never got around to it until now. Better late than never, right? Right. Plus, seriously, if I was asked to build another “rain…

Alex’s Sporty Big Kid Room
Oooooh yeah! You can put a fork in Alex’s room because it is duh-un (done)! But first, lets take a little gander at what his room used to look like. Oh, how many nights I sat beside that crib and then toddler bed. It wasn’t always that messy. I swear. Anyways, back to how it’s looking now! I’m so excited with how his room turned out, especially because I was nervous and un-enthused about a Buckeye themed boys room (sorry, John). All I could picture were giant Block Os and fatheads of Brutus. Not that those things don’t make a great room, but I just wasn’t that into them.…

A Nursery Update!
Wait, wait, wait, wait. You guys finish your nurseries BEFORE your baby is born?? You must be doing it all wrong because there is no way that I am. Okay. You’re doing it right, if that’s a thing. Alex’s nursery never actually got finished, so we are doing his big boy room up right…eventually. Christian is only 6 months old. So, naturally we are almost totally done with his nursery. You’re welcome, dude. Since we spoke last, we’ve done a few things to spruce up his sleeping quarters. We added a couch, some super cool awesome art, some shelves and a mobile (which apparently is pronounced mo-beel and…

A Cutie Side Table Update
I wanted so badly to keep this adorable little table for myself. But, I told myself when I bought it that I would sell it after I fixed it up. Plus, for the life of me, I couldn’t find anywhere to put it in my house. Bummer. I snatched this guy up on our local Facebook yard sale site. Three. Bucks. It’s a dangerous place for me to be browsing. People get rid of amazing stuff for next to nothing! This one definitely needed a face lift and it was the perfect candidate for me to try out my homemade chalk paint! The recipe I used was roughly: 1 cup…

Tick-Tock, A Pallet Clock
First off, don’t hate me for taking a two month summer hibernation break. I’m totally sorry, but do you know how fast two months goes?? It’s crazy pants. Anyways. Thanks for sticking with me y’all, you’re the best!! Today I’m bringing you a project that I have been thinking about for a while and finally got around to making (only took 6, maybe more, months)! A pallet clock! I’ve seen a few on Pinterest and Etsy and knew I could make it myself. And by myself, I mean with my dad and John’s help =] First, John so lovingly brought me a pallet home from work. You know you’re a…

House Rules
Trying to teach a toddler rules can be pretty challenging. Before you know it, you end up with so many rules that they just can’t remember or comprehend what you are trying to convey. It can get frustrating for all parties. To keep it simple in our house, John came up with three rules that we think can be applied to pretty much any situation and so far have worked out very well. 1. Respect 2. Always Help 3. Be Nice So, every time Alex does something out of line or he needs to take step back from a situation, we review our rules. He has them memorized, but I…

My Silly Boys
One of my goals is to get the good camera out a little more often during our regular, everyday activities. I want to capture those moments as well as having some dedicated photo shoots with the boys. I’m obsessed with lifestyle photography (like our wedding photos, which I realized I’ve never done a wedding post! Coming soon!). I’m no professional like our photographer was and is, but it’s still fun to mess around with. These boys are so silly together already. I never would have thought they would form a bond so fast, but they have. They love each other and it is so apparent in their everyday actions. Alex…

A Dream Come True
Overkill? I think not. I’m pretty sure it was one of my first pins on Pinterest, like, 2 years ago. An old ladder to hold blankets?!? Genius! It wasn’t a project in the forefront of my mind, but it was always lurking. I had my dad on the lookout for ladders left roadside, I would casually browse for them at yard sales and thrift stores, but I never found the right one at the right price. Now, here we are, a few years later and my mom has found a great antiques dealer near her, Arnold’s Antiques based out of Williamston, MI. She picked up a set of awesome chairs for…

Unplug & Unwind
There’s no internet. There’s no cable (but that doesn’t keep us from watching “Frozen” 15 times in 3 days). We swim, we boat, we sit, we talk and we eat. John and I did manage to pick up our phones for a few pictures though, so I thought I’d share a bit of our weekend with you! This Fourth of July we spent at John’s parent’s cottage. It’s in a great spot on Lake Erie where we can watch the sunset perfectly every night. Alex loves going to Gamma and Gampa’s house on the “ocean”. He gets to ride in the big boats and see the sailboat runners (that’s the…
