The other night, we had a mom’s craft night were we made the most adorable ornaments! I’m so glad my friend posted the idea and ordered these fillable ornaments 🙂
I had the boys’ stuff from the hospital (and by all I mean their hats and bracelets) in a box in the basement waiting to be put up somewhere or something. I had big plans for all that stuff. I’m sure you did too. So lets join together and put it all in an ornament, shall we?
The night of the crafting (that wording makes crafting sound super creepy), I was not on my A-game. I seriously had no ideas except to throw their hats in the bulb with their bracelets. Done and done. Then I sat with my snacks and hot cocoa and watched everybody else blow me out of the water. So, of course, after seeing all of these ideas, I couldn’t just leave mine be.
I borrowed an idea that one of my friends had to use vinyl to put the boys’ names, birthdates, birth weight and length around the inside. Oh my gosh. It takes it up a million notches! And it was super simple so you all need to go do this.
Here is what you’ll need:
Baby paraphernalia
Vinyl
Cutting machine
Tweezers and Silhouette hook for lifting and handling vinyl
Ribbon
If you don’t have a cutting machine such as a Cricut or Silhouette, you could probably use stickers on the outside of the bulb to get the same effect.
I’ll be using my Silhouette Cameo to do this project.
First, I sort of eye-balled how big I would want the letters to be. I decided on about 3/4 inch letters. I used the font My Own Topher (free download here).
Then, type out all of your info into your design studio.
Once you like how it all looks, right click on the text and select “flip horizontally”.
This will make your letters run backwards so you can stick them on the inside of the bulb.
Cut the letters onto your vinyl an your ready to get sticking! I used the edge to keep my lettering semi-straight. All the stuff didn’t fit, so it ended up on two lines which was okay with me!
Then, I just stuck each of the boys’ hats in their respective bulbs and tied some ribbon through the loop at the top.
Voila!
It feels so good that these precious items aren’t in a box anymore 🙂
I love the addition to our tree this year and Alex was super excited to hang his hat up!
Have your own mom’s craft night and make these! I promise you’ll have fun 🙂
