If you are anything like me, you have a list a mile long of projects that you need to get done, but for whatever reason, you’ve been putting them off. I have so many little projects that, when I pass by them, I think “I really need to get that done”, but I never actually do. So, I am happy to announce the start of “Tackle it Tuesday”! It will give me the much needed motivation to finish up the nagging projects so I can do more big, fun projects and I hope it motivates you to get your stuff done, too! I think it will diminish some of the mental clutter that I have going on all the time 🙂
My first project is a little piece of handicraft that is pretty important to me. 🙂 This cross-stitch was a gift from my mom to me way back in 1989. I was just two years old! I must get some of my creativity from my mama!
I absolutely love the content, but the frame and mat didn’t really fit into my home’s decor, so it’s been sitting in our basement since we moved in (almost 3 years ago?!?). Obviously, it is a piece that means a lot to me, since my mom made it for me, so I really wanted to display it and the boys’ playroom seemed like the perfect spot. I just needed to freshen it up a bit (with my mom’s permission, of course :)) {spot the awkward blogger!}
I decided to go with a white frame and white mat because I really wanted the focus to be on the awesome cross-stitch that was made with love!
I gave the frame a once-over with a scotch-brite pad to take off the shine, then wiped it down with a damp rag to remove the dust.
Then, I took the contents of the frame out and set them aside and I grabbed some white craft paint and gave it 3 coats to cover up the old oak finish. The mat also got 3 coats of white craft paint.
After letting it dry for a few hours (and giving the glass a good cleaning), I popped everything back together and added it to the gallery wall in the playroom! #youdontwanttoseethefloor
And, it was even mom-approved!
I love that I was able to breathe some new life into this piece from my childhood! Now what to do with all of my silver animals and tableware…don’t worry, mom, I won’t paint it!
I hope this inspires you to not get rid of a piece of your history just because it doesn’t match your style as-is. There is always something you can do to incorporate it into your style if you love it!
What projects are on your list to tackle? I would love to see them! Find me on Instagram to show me! 🙂 I can’t wait to share more of my procrastination with you guys! #procrastinatorsunite (#later)
