Whooo’s There?

Happy fall, y’all!

I feel like this season always sneaks up on me. One day it’s 85 and sunny and the next, all the leaves have changed and I’m digging around for sweaters and jeans. Which is a task that has been taken to a whole new level with two little ones. I never know what size they’ll be wearing from one season to the next!

Anyways, I wanted to share another easy DIY sign to get you in the Halloween/fall spirit. I’m not big on doing all of the scary Halloween decorating, but I do enjoy the cutesy things here and there.

I made this little sign last year but never actually blogged about it (see: fall sneaking up on me). So, why not share it now? Better late than never, amiright?

Our neighbors had some scrap wood from building their deck and they said I could pick through it if I wanted. You know I can’t turn down some good scrap wood; my wheels are always turning! I had snapped a picture of a sign I saw when we were shopping around a farm store with my parents. And now I have no idea where it is.

To start off I have the wood a quick sanding and wiped it clean. Then I gave it a few coats of orange craft paint.

Sign 1

While that was drying, found a similar picture of the owl with the moon and printed it out along with my letters.  The font is from PicMonkey and is called Coolock Black.

Sign 2

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know what’s coming next. If you’re new here (Hi! Let’s hang out!) let me fill you in on my favorite way to transfer things to wood.

sign 3

You lay whatever you’ve printed on top of your wood, and using a ballpoint pen, trace around the letters/picture. Now your wood is indented and you can fill in your beautiful art work! I’m sure there are other (easier?) ways to do this, but this has been my favorite so far.

Sign 4

And there you have it! A simple & cute way to add a little Halloween to your decor.

Porch 6

To hang it, I used an eye hook on each end and some twine. Then I just popped it onto the bottom of my porch light. Loving this little addition to my entry!Porch 7
