A Nursery Update!

Wait, wait, wait, wait.  You guys finish your nurseries BEFORE your baby is born??  You must be doing it all wrong because there is no way that I am.

Okay. You’re doing it right, if that’s a thing.  Alex’s nursery never actually got finished, so we are doing his big boy room up right…eventually.  Christian is only 6 months old. So, naturally we are almost totally done with his nursery.  You’re welcome, dude.

Since we spoke last, we’ve done a few things to spruce up his sleeping quarters.  We added a couch, some super cool awesome art, some shelves and a mobile (which apparently is pronounced mo-beel and not mo-bull. Who knew? Oh, everyone but me).  I also finally hung up the window that I did a while back.  You can see that here.

The couch is there to 1) create a makeshift guest room – it’s a pullout sofa 2) allow me to nurse at night 3) give me somewhere to lay while one extremely rude tooth arrives

I didn’t think I’d like it for nursing since I used a rocker with Alex, but it gives him more room to sprawl and he’s a big fella that needs his space!  Verdict: love it!

The pallet art was made and given to us by Sarah and Jose.  It’s everything I dreamed of for this nursery but didn’t want to make myself, so thank you guys!!!

We even put up the shelves that I made, oh 2 years ago (originally for Alex’s room)!  These are Ana White’s $10 ledges.  Super simple for a first time build.  Don’t be scared!

My little helper (not helping. at all)

I did labor over this mobile for days though.  I found this one on Etsy and fell in loooove with it, but not the price. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be charging that much too, but it wasn’t going to be paying that much.  So, naturally, I made my own.

I started off by doing some freehand drawings of the animals and then turned them into patterns.

Then I cut all of my felt pieces and got to sewing.

I used embroidery floss and just did a basic stitch on everything and stuffed each piece with fiber fill.

Then I bought two sizes of embroidery hoops and took the outer piece off. I then tied the two hoops together on 3 spots, trying to make it as even as possible.  Next, I tied all of the creatures and the tree on in random places and to finish it off, I wrapped the hoops in yarn.  This made it easy to hide all of the loose ends from the knots.

You might have seen this sneak peek on Instagram and if you didn’t, you should follow me!

Not to toot my own horn but, seriously, toot toot.

And so we all know what Christian sees when he admires his new mobile.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
