I wanted so badly to keep this adorable little table for myself. But, I told myself when I bought it that I would sell it after I fixed it up. Plus, for the life of me, I couldn’t find anywhere to put it in my house. Bummer.
I snatched this guy up on our local Facebook yard sale site. Three. Bucks.
It’s a dangerous place for me to be browsing. People get rid of amazing stuff for next to nothing!
This one definitely needed a face lift and it was the perfect candidate for me to try out my homemade chalk paint! The recipe I used was roughly:
1 cup flat latex paint, 2 tbsp plaster of paris, 2 tbsp cool water
mix water and plaster of paris until combined, then mix in paint
It was so simple and it totally beats paying upwards of $40 for a quart of pre-made chalk paint!
So with this stuff, you can apply it to any clean surface without sanding or priming and it really does cover easily. This is after 2 coats and as you can see above this table was really dark brown.
After getting the whole thing covered, I decided to add a little interest to the top. I’m really loving herringbone right now so that’s what I went with!
I did a little practice on paper for spacing and such. Plus, I am a visual learner so I couldn’t dive in without knowing exactly what it would look like.
I used a scrap piece of 1 x 2 on it’s edge and a white paint pen to make the straight lines.
Then I just free-handed the “v” pattern.
I think it turned out super fun! I did end up selling this (sad day) and it was pretty exciting as I’ve never sold any furniture before after flipping it. Maybe this is my calling…
