I’ve been itching to get to the thrift store lately. I finally gave in on Monday and dragged Alex out for a day of deal searchin’. He’s always such a trooper, especially when he gets to talk to everybody we pass. Poor thing didn’t even make it to the store before falling asleep.
We don’t have a lot in the way of thrift stores around Oxford except for our local Family Resource Center. The thrift store is approximately 800 sq. ft. and completely jam-packed! Every once in a while you score something awesome, but it is unlikely. I will say that they have a sale every year when all of the college students move out that lasts for a week. It’s amazing the things you can find there!
But when I get the thrifting bug, I go out to Fairfield where Valley Thrift Store is. Every Monday, all merchandise is 25% off. Can’t beat that!
The trip started off as a possible search for some clothes for Alex because he is currently squeezing into his fall clothes from last year. I really need to update the poor kid’s wardrobe. Unfortunately the clothing front is really hit or miss and Monday it was definitely a miss. Whomp whomp. Sorry, buddy.
So instead of wallowing in self-pity, I picked myself up and worked my way over the the “junk” side of the store. So glad I did! I was looking for some things to help us Reinekes get organized. People are always giving great stuff away (including me). Right of the bat I scored a cleaning caddy ($.69)bonus that I was in the market for one!). It now lives in our bathroom closet with our upstairs cleaning arsenal.
I also picked up this little basket ($.09) to put somewhere to catch little things (ahem bobby pins and hair ties). It’ll either end up next to the bed or in the living room. I’m waiting to see where they are accumulating.
Here it is after I gave it a coat of primer and a coat of Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint.
Next, I found this bowl($5). Be still my lime green thrift loving heart. I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with it, but I really really had to have it.
I then picked up these two votives ($.49/each, that I already painted light blue) to hold q-tips and cotton balls when I finally hang shelves in our bathroom. Pretty stinking cute, huh?
The second to last thing I grabbed were two quart mason jars ($.49/each). I plan to make this Laundry Sauce next time I make detergent and it calls for 2 quart mason jars, so whoop! I just need to get the lids/bands and I’m set.
The last thing I picked up is a mystery and I will share it with you on Friday because it needs a little updating before making it’s appearance. All I can say is it was a really great find!
After everything, my grand total was just over $10. I’d say that’s a great day at the thrift store.
Has anybody else been junkin’ lately? I’d love to be jealous of whatever you found!
